Raw Tourism was established in December, 2003 by Neil Sootinck and Roon Bhuyan, being born and educated in Shillong, and introduced to the outdoors by family members who inculcated the love and respect for the outdoors, fishing, trekking and traveling. In our travels, we have been able to meet like minded people, village elders and now have an extensive and rich list. Our knowledge of the land and extensive network with a passion for outdoors is the very foundation of Raw Tourism.
Owning our own equipment such as tents, outdoor equipment, caving suits, helmets, lights, ropes, carabineers etc has been an important factor.
Today the goodwill of Raw Tourism has got repeat clientele who themselves have taken initiatives to bring their friends to the North East. The name “Raw tourism” was chosen for what it says - we at Rawtourism prefer to show our visitors more of the country side, villages, the people and their way of life. Raw Tourism has been delivering quality and offbeat trips to its clients. Our initiatives have been - Introducing homestays in remote areas.
The concept of “Endogenous tourism”, to enhance experience, it seeks to promote local culture and craft based tourism for sustaining and improving livelihoods. Apart from promoting tourism and creating awareness, one of our main aims is for the economical benefits to reach the people at the grassroots level. In respect to this we have had our guests at Mawphlang together with their hosts take up cultivating the fields and the feedbacks from both our guests and hosts has been excellent. They both speak of a rich experience in learning from each other and at the same time an excellent way to experience village life for our clients. This traditional way of life will greatly enrich the visitor's experience.
Our Vision
To make the Northeast, the ultimate tourist destination and in that respect to develop activities that are self sustaining, eco friendly and involving the local villages, its people in the implementation of these activities.
